Derek started working this week for Aetna Insurance company as an Actuarial Analyst. It’s kind of an apprentice Actuary, and he hopes to move up to a full Actuary soon.
After interviewing with companies all over the country he finally found a match at an office about 4 miles from his house; a 5-10 minute drive depending on traffic. How convenient!
Looks like a good job, and the start of a good career for him.

How’s Derek’s job going, now that he’s been there about a month? Does he like it?

I should let him answer, but I can say that he is still not very busy as they are starting a new group here in town and he is the first actuarial staff member hired. His boss is in another state and sends him tasks, but he’s not putting in any overtime.
He’s also getting used to working for a big company, with the ups and downs of that. Great benefits, good pay, but everything is structured and codified and nothing happens fast.
All considered, I think it’s going to be a good job for him, and I think he’ll do well.
