Second Epidural

September 24th, 2007 · 8 Comments

Derek went in for his second epidural this afternoon. The doctor used a little more local anaesthetic, and Derek said it was much less painful.

There was not much (if any) improvement in his back pain after the first shot two weeks ago, but the Doctor said this shot was a different steroid that works in conjunction with the first shot. He said it would take about 10 days to feel an improvement, but he sounded optimistic that it would definitely help.

I hope so. I’ve started to get some back pain with the pregnancy. But mine will go away by itself. I hope derek has the same luck.

I think that Richard is right. If, and when, he needs surgery, Texas Back Institute sounds like the best possible place. I never heard of anyone getting along as well as he did.

Jocelyn, I wish the cause of Derek’s back pain was the same as yours, but somehow I doubt it…

Richard was involved with a trial of a new procedure/product, and got it all done for free. I doubt that we would be that lucky. And that procedure/product is probably still not available to the general public.

The procedure I had is FDA approved and available to the general pubic. The only issue is that insurance companies still consider it to be experimental and will not pay for it.

I still think about how incredible it is almost every day. Like today when I lifted a 70 pound propane bottle up onto my truck bed, climbed up after it, and then jumped down to the ground without anything hurting at all. It really is amazing.

What I had was called LSI’s Lumbar Steriod Injections. Is that what they are calling Derek’s injections? Sounds like it. I was given the option of having a local or a general. Easy decision for me. Knock me out. I didn’t feel a thing. Of course, they didn’t work either, but at least I did not have to go through the pain for something that did me no good.

So far not much change, but it’s only been 5 days. The doctor said it would take 10 days.

Do you still reside in Tempe? Or for that matter, are you at the present time, anywhere? Did Gisele return? Is Derek’s back any better? If not, what’s the next step? Do you ever read and answer e-mail?
