Ahead of schedule

Filed under: Family Updates — Daryl @ 12:42 pm

I went back for my 3 week surgery followup today. Doc say’s I’m 3 to 4 weeks ahead of schedule in terms of healing, flexibility and range of motion. He used the word “amazing”. The biggest concern is that I will feel so well that I will try to do too much too soon. But he thinks I should be released to do whatever I want by 12 weeks post-surgery, or about October 15.

I have graduated from being limited to lifting a fork, mouse or TV remote to a coffee cup or bottle of water. I start physical therapy tomorrow to help preserve and improve range of motion. And I get to lose the sling and sleep in a bed again. What a treat!

  1. Good to hear it’s coming along so well.

  2. Didn’t you heal unusually quickly from your last shoulder surgery, too? You must be like the cheerleader on Heroes or something. Did you get bit by a spider when you were on a field trip in high school?

Congratulations on graduating to a big bed.

  3. I’m not sure that I like this fast healing; you will overdo. Where did the ability come from? Not me.

  4. I saw the physical therapist today, and they had the same comment as the doctor and Mom — I’m well ahead of schedule, but that brings with it the risk that I will try to do too much too soon. I’m on guard against that.

Donna — yes, when recovering from my last shoulder surgery the physical therapists also commented that I was well ahead of schedule. I guess I just heal fast.

  5. How’s your rib feeling?

  6. My rib still hurts more than I expected it would by now. In fact I slept in bed one night and then went back to the recliner again because it just feels a little better, both because of the rib and the collarbone.
