Back to California

August 24th, 2006 · 3 Comments

Gisele flew to California today, to spend a few days with her brother’s family. On Sunday Devon and I are driving over with a Saturn full of his stuff. Then Gisele and I will fly home Sunday evening. Derek will probably be home for the weekend too, but he’s going to be on his own […]

Moving in to U of A

August 16th, 2006 · 9 Comments

We took Derek down to Tucson today with a van full of his stuff to get him moved into his dorm. He came back home with us this evening. We will make another trip Friday or Saturday with the rest of his stuff and he will stay. Devon is still here for another week, then […]

Another quick trip

July 28th, 2006 · 2 Comments

I’m flying to Ontario Airport in Southern California tomorrow (Saturday) to bring Devon back home. He has the Saturn, but we have to do a little work on it before it is ready for the drive across the desert (fix the air conditioner, for example). I hope we get back to Tempe by late Saturday […]

Homeward Bound

July 23rd, 2006 · 3 Comments

Tonight at 1:00am we catch an 8-hour flight to LAX, then an hour to Phoenix and we are home. Should arrive around noon Monday. The last four days in Lima (“Leema”) have been relaxing. We shopped, saw Superman Returns (subtitled, not dubbed), ate and relaxed in our rooms. I just hope the flight home tonight […]

Bicycle Hell

July 18th, 2006 · 5 Comments

At least it was hell for Gisele and her friend Eli. The rest of us had fun. We had been led to believe that the ride down the mountain would be on a paved road, with the van following us to pick up anybody who got tired. It turned out to be quite different. We […]

Huaraz Day 2

July 17th, 2006 · 4 Comments

We spent another day in the mountains near the town of Huaraz. Beautiful vertical granite walls, glacier-fed lakes, snow-capped peaks. Reminded me of Yosemite or Glacier Park. We also stopped at the town of Yungay, near Huaraz. In 1970 there was a large earthquake nearby, and a mile wide section of mountain slid 4000 feet […]

Huaraz

July 16th, 2006 · 5 Comments

The bus ride yesterday turned out to be 8 hours instead of 10, and the bus was nice, so it wasn’t too bad. Huaraz is a small city (60,000) in the foothills of the Andes at about 10,500 feet elevation. There are not many tourists here except for backpackers, as it’s a nice jumping-off place […]

Bye Devon

July 15th, 2006 · 1 Comment

A quick post, as we have a bus to catch. We put Devon on a plane last night (this morning). He was scheduled to leave at 1:00am, but when we got there at 10:00pm they told us the flight was delayed 4 hours until 5:00am. We stayed with him until about 1:00, then left him […]
