From my kids accomplishments, to my heretical perspective of the world

Am I numb? Or…?

July 22nd, 2012 · 8 Comments

When the evening news comes on and the first half of the program discusses the shooting in Colorado, I find myself fast forwarding through it. I don’t want to know any more about it. A crazy person shot and killed 15 people, wounded 50 more. OK. That’s all I want to know. Let’s talk about something else.

I think that partly I don’t want to give any recognition to the person, which may have been his motive. I don’t want to know his name, or where he lived, or why he did it. Let him remain anonymous.

I don’t want to talk about it, and yet here I am talking about it (or talking about not talking about it…). But it keeps getting thrust in my face, every time I look at the news or Face the Press, or even Jay Leno, and I keep turning away.

Enough said. Let’s move on. I know all I want or need to know.

Let’s talk about Apollo instead. How is he doing? He must be eating more than chicken and rice by now.

I found myself feeling exactly the same way.

I agree! I am so tired of hearing about it and trying to keep my kids from being overexposed to it… To make it worse on social media the debate from one side about gun control and on the other side about arming everyone…. good grief… just pause and reflect.
The news is off in our house.

Yes, it’s happened too many times. I’d like to see tributes to the victims, though. The names have not even all been released, yet we have been told every detail about the shooter.

    And another agreement here.

The thing I seem to notice is the news shows tend to think everyday Americans are interested in things that we really aren’t. Yes I wanted to know about it the first day or 2 but when news becomes nothing but that it’s overdone.

I guess “Face the Press” was an amalgam of “Face the Nation” and “Meet the Press”.

I wondered about that. I figured I just wasn’t up on current news shows.

And here we go again. Another mass shooting. This is getting very old. I’m not unfeeling toward the victims; I’m disgusted at the shooters who continue to seek attention through this kind of madness. Enough!!
