Experience

September 3rd, 2008 · 8 Comments

Imagine that, a guy gets a law degree, his total political experience is to serve 8 years on the Illinois State Legislature, then one term in the US Congress, and then he has the audacity to think he’s ready to be president. How ridiculous! Sure, he delivers a good speech, but he really should get a few years more experience before he takes on such an important position. Imagine the audacity of that Abraham Lincoln guy!

Hmmmm. Are you really saying Obama is another Abe?

Aside from that I don’t typically use his lack of experience as a reason to not vote for him. I use his extreme liberalism, his friendship with terrorists, his friendship with America haters, and his disdain for ordinary Americans.

Obama could never fill Abe’s shoes!

Don, I have no idea what you mean by “friendship with terrorists, his friendship with America haters, and his disdain for ordinary Americans.”. Please explain.

I’m pretty sure you know what I mean but I’ll play along.

William Ayers bombed the Pentagon and says he would do it again. Terrorist

Reverend Jerimiah Wright – “God Damn America” – America hater

“And it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations,” – Obama speaking to a group of San Francisco elitists when he didn’t know he was being recorded.

Oh come on! Even Fox News discounts any significance in the Ayers connection.

I think he should have disassociated himself from Wright before he did. His long relationship seems strange and troubling.

When I first heard the “bitter” comment, I thought “Right on. He sees that pretty clearly.” So I guess I’m elitist too. Whatever that means…

    This is discounting any significance?

“Ayers was clearly more than someone Obama just ran into in the neighborhood on occasion. In the mid-1990s, when Obama was making his first run for the Illinois Senate, Ayers had Obama to his home to introduce him to others.”

Seems to me if you went to someone’s home you probably knew them. They also served on at least 1 board together.

And while I’m at it I should mention Tony Rezko.

    Heather,
Certainly I’m not equating Obama with Lincoln. Those were pretty big shoes to fill. Who knows? He may rise to the challenge, but the odds are against that.

All I’m saying is that his (lack of) experience shouldn’t necessarily be a major issue. You can compare him to McCain and clearly say that McCain has more experience. But that’s comparing more to less, not more to inadequate.
