Apollo went to the vet today for surgery. He has a couple of suspicious tumors. They are probably benign, but they need to be removed anyway. I’ll post an update in a comment here once we hear back.

We just picked up Apollo from the vets. He had more tumors than we knew about, at least 5 or 6 around his anus. The vet removed the large ones, but said she couldn’t get all of the little ones, and there are probably more that she couldn’t see.
This kind of tumor growth is stimulated by testosterone, so he had his testosterone producing glands removed too. The vet said that there’s a good chance the existing tumors will now shrink, assuming they are benign. The biopsy to determine malignancy will take about a week.
He is groggy yet agitated this evening. Hopefully he will calm down when he gets back to his home, but the vet warned us that it will take a few days before he returns to normal.

He passed a painful night, with a lot of whining. The pain pills weren’t quite enough, but the vet said that’s all we can do. He should be feeling better in a day or two.

Aw, poor Apollo! Hope he is feeling better today and has a better night tonight. We’ll be anxious to hear the path report.

We went over to Derek’s house to see him yesterday evening, and he is much better. He’s still on pain pills but at a reduce level and is no longer whining. He was happy to see us, is up and about, and occasionally wagging his tail.
He hasn’t had a bowel movement yet, and we’re dreading that. It’s going to hurt.
