We made it to Taiwan, but not without some excitement. As we were getting ready to go, at 4 in the morning, Derek slipped while running down the stairs. His foot hurt, but he was able to walk on it.
We barely made the plane to San Francisco, but finally seemed like we were safely on our way. But when Derek tried to stand up, he couldn’t put any weight on his foot. He made it to the door of the plane, but had to be met there with a wheelchair.
The rest of the trip he got wheelchair rides on and off the planes, in Tokyo and Taipei. It actually wasn’t bad, being taken to the front of the lines, boarding early. The worst part was being the last off the plane, but then we zoomed past the other passengers waiting at immigration or security.
The next day he was feeling much better, and able to walk a little. By now, he is back to normal.

Looks like fun, but from experience, I know that it wasn’t.

Bummer! Glad he’s feeling better. That kind of treatment is what Betty gets at Disneyland.

When I find wifi I can use my phone for Internet and email, but the phone part is not compatible with the system here. So we have a couple of cheap international phones we use for phone calls. We just pre-pay the minutes.
Devon has his iPhone and after he jail broke it he can use it locally. AT&T’s system is compatible with international systems, while Verizon’s is not.
We are having a good time. In some ways Taiwan has changed a lot, but in others it is the same as it was 34 years ago when I first got off the plane here. I feel very nostalgic, but I don’t recognize most of the places. The people are just as friendly, the food is just as good, but the subway system, and Burger Kings and 7-Elevens are all new. The girls are just as cute, but now if I look at them I feel like a dirty old man. Times change!
