It’s been 4 weeks since I had my rotator cuff repaired in my shoulder.
So far physical therapy has been purely maintaining and improving range of motion. The rest of the time my arm is in a sling. However, this week we started some simple, light, strengthening exercises. Boy, is my arm weak! I can barely hold a towel against the wall with it. The therapist doesn’t seem worried about it; I guess that’s normal. He did say that he’s moving me along a little faster than normal, based on my progress. That’s good news.
In two and a half weeks I go back to see the doctor, and he’s supposed to tell me that I can ditch the sling. Looking forward to that day!

I think that you are improving rapidly. You are the type of person who has to be superior in all that you do. You feel that you should be nearly ready to play basketball, but be happy if you manage to hold a towel to the wall. You couldn’t have done that two weeks ago.

It might be fun to ditch the sling, but I bet it won’t be as comfortable. Congrats on your good progress.

I think you should go shoot some hoops. That will strengthen that arm. 🙂

Exciting milestone! Today in physical therapy I was able to lift my arm above my head using only it’s own muscles! There was a little pain, and it was weak, but it worked!
Now I’m feeling optimistic that I will recover from this and regain full function.
