Ninite!

There’s a very useful webpage, ninite.com. Put a checkmark next to all the programs you have installed on your computer, click “Get Installer”, and the page will download and install all updates. It even makes sure to leave out the add-ons so many programs like to include, such as the despicable Ask bar, or McAfee Scanner.

Many of my favorite programs are listed, including OpenOffice, 7-Zip, VLC, CDBurnerXP, Faststone, and many others. Everything I’ve read about it gives Ninite thumbs up for safety. There’s a Pro version that keeps things updated without having to check in periodically, but I think the free version is just fine.

It works best if you exit all running programs when you start, since some programs cannot be updated while they are running.

Very cool! I had never heard of this one so I’ve got it running now.

I forgot I was running AVG on this machine and Avast on my other one and had clicked Avast. I was able to cancel it before it got there.

I use ImgBurn instead of CDBurnerXP. Have you used ImgBurn and if so do you have a reason that you use what you do?

Very cool! What happens if you clicked a software that you don’t have installed? I assume it installs it?

    Don,
I like CDBurnerXP because it is full function and easy to use. I have read reviews that say that ImgBurn will do a few things CDBurnerXP will not, but it doesn’t support multi-session and is not so user-friendly.

    Donna,
I had the same question and looked into it. The answer is that it will install those apps. Useful for setting up a new computer, but when I’m helping update someone else’s computer and I’m not sure what they have installed, it would be nice to have an option to only update existing programs.

I used CDBurnerXP once but don’t remember what I thought of it. Everything I read on it says about the same as you.

I can’t remember the last time I needed multi-session so to keep the geek power I think I’ll stay with ImgBurn but thanks for telling me why you use what you do.
