Summer is (unofficially) here. The Weather Service is predicting 112 degrees today, 2 degrees over the record for the date.
At least it’s dry and the nights are still cooling off into the 70s. We leave our windows open most of the night and sleep comfortably, but that’s going to end in a few weeks when the monsoon brings in moisture and the humidity comes up. In recent years there were several weeks in a row where the low was in the 90s. We’re still waiting for our first ever 100+ low. I’m not in any hurry for that.

We left Mesa at 7 AM this morning. By 10:30 we were in Blythe and it was already 110. As we drove through Palm Springs the thermometers on both the truck and car read 118. I have the remote for the house thermometer attached under the trailer, much closer to the road. It records the highest temperature each day. It reads 122.

The heat impacts my solar generation as well. Solar panels become less efficient as the temperature rises. Last week when we were in the 80s I was getting about 49 kWh per day. Today I will be lucky to hit 45.
It’s a double-whammy, because we use the air conditioner a lot more when it’s hot. So we consume more, and generate less. Today I’ll be lucky to generate half of what we end up using.

But we never have to shovel heat to get out of our driveway!
