{"id":779,"date":"2013-10-01T09:57:48","date_gmt":"2013-10-01T16:57:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/daryllafferty.com\/blog\/?p=779"},"modified":"2013-10-01T09:57:48","modified_gmt":"2013-10-01T16:57:48","slug":"ignorance-of-the-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/daryllafferty.com\/blog\/2013\/10\/01\/ignorance-of-the-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Ignorance of the law&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Kaiser Foundation recently completed a <a href=\"http:\/\/kaiserfamilyfoundation.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/09\/8487-t.pdf\" title=\"Kaiser Poll\">poll <\/a>of Americans on the Affordable Care Act.  The findings are interesting.<\/p>\n<p>43% of those polled had an unfavorable impression of the law (vs. 39% favorable), but just 35% think opponents of the law should continue their efforts to repeal the law or keep it from being implemented.<\/p>\n<p>But it gets really interesting when they polled people about their knowledge of the new law.  <\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Only 59% knew that coverage could not be denied based on medical history.<br \/>\n&#8211;42% thought that the government would set up panels to make end of life decisions for those on Medicare (the infamous &#8220;Death Panels&#8221;).<br \/>\n&#8211;43% thought that illegal immigrants would be given financial assistance to buy insurance coverage<br \/>\n&#8211;52% (over half!) thought that there would be a new government run insurance plan<br \/>\n&#8211;Only 65% knew about the new health insurance exchanges.<br \/>\n&#8211;42% thought that Medicare benefits would be cut.<br \/>\n&#8211;Only 42% knew that the act helps close the Medicare prescription &#8220;doughnut hole&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>When you consider the widespread ignorance about what the act does, the polls about favorable\/unfavorable opinions become pretty meaningless.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Kaiser Foundation recently completed a poll of Americans on the Affordable Care Act.
