5 Months and 50 Pounds

May 6th, 2007 · 8 Comments

Apollo is now just 5 months old, and weighs just 50 pounds.

Apollo at 5 months old

He goes through 20 pounds of dry and maybe 5 pounds of canned puppy food in about 2 weeks; nearly that much comes out the other end (Derek probably thinks it’s much more).

You are supposed to be able to start them pulling a sled or scooter when they reach 45 pounds, so I think it’s time he got to work. He gets bored pretty easily, which means digging or chewing or howling or whining. We try to take him to the dog park every couple of days, but I don’t think that’s often enough.

This picture doesn’t do him justice — he seems bigger than he looks here! The picture is also a little blurry — I’ll try to get a better one up.

Thank you for the picture. Our minister and his wife brought Stanley to Church today. He is from the pound, and looked to be part terrier, weighs 15#, and is 19 months old. They said it was his first and last time going to Church. If Apollo could catch him, he might make a tasty morsel. Stanley acted like a preacher’s kid, wouldn’t mind anything. She finally had to go out with him. Cute, but he keeps them busy.

Wow, that’s one big puppy! There must be some kind of productive work you could start him doing. How about pulling a lawn mower around the back yard? Maybe you need to borrow some nieces and nephews that he could pull in a wagon. Derek should get busy training him to do that, and I’ll send over the kids!

We will look for his cousins while we are in Alaska. Maybe Derek needs to make a trip to the “mother land” and have him trained by an Iditerod musher. On second thought, once Apollo saw Alaska he would probably not want to go back to the desert.

    How about a saddle?

I’ve got a good idea! R&D and the kids can take Apollo with them in the fifth wheel. Wouldn’t that be fun?

I would need a bigger trailer.

    And a lot more food.

But he could ride in the cab with you, and help to entertain the kids. I can’t understand why you seem to have a problem with this great solution!
